Where It All Began:
A 10×10 Terrace

A modest terrace became an early lesson in spatial optimisation, thoughtful detailing and the belief that meaningful design is never defined by size.

A small space does not limit design.
It asks design to become more thoughtful.

What a 10×10 terrace taught us
about designing with intent.

This compact terrace became a laboratory for ideas—showing how proportion, planting, movement and material detail can turn even the smallest area into an experience.

Lessons From Tradition
01 The First Brief

Begin by understanding how the space will be lived

The terrace was only 10×10 feet, but the brief was never simply to decorate it. The goal was to create a calm, usable retreat—one that could support morning tea, plants, quiet pauses and intimate conversations without feeling crowded.

02 Spatial Planning

Every inch must earn its place

In a compact terrace, circulation, seating and greenery compete for the same limited footprint. The solution came through precise zoning, restrained furniture and clear movement paths so the space remained open, comfortable and visually balanced.

03 Planting & Atmosphere

Greenery can shape the architecture

Plants were not treated as decoration added at the end. Their height, texture and placement defined privacy, softened edges and created depth. Layered planting helped the terrace feel more generous while bringing seasonal movement and life into the composition.

04 Materials & Detail

Small spaces reveal every detail

When the area is limited, every joint, finish and transition becomes visible. Durable outdoor materials, controlled colours and careful workmanship gave the terrace a sense of calm. Simplicity worked only because the details were resolved with discipline.

05 The Lasting Lesson

Impact is never defined by size

The 10×10 terrace established a principle that continues to guide Renova: design value comes from clarity of thought, not the scale of the project. A small intervention, when shaped around real life, can transform how a person experiences an entire home.
